Hands On Learning in Construction Skills

This week one of our students has been developing practical construction skills through a series of real, hands on site tasks. Working alongside staff support, they completed guttering work, plaster repairs, and plasterboard fitting, building both confidence and technical ability along the way.

The session focused on safe working practices, correct tool use, and understanding the step by step process behind each task. From preparing surfaces for plaster repair to measuring and fitting plasterboard accurately, the student showed excellent focus and determination throughout.

Activities like this support far more than just vocational skills. Students develop problem solving, patience, planning, and pride in a finished result. Seeing a repair completed or a panel correctly fitted gives immediate, visible feedback and a real sense of achievement.

Practical pathways such as construction skills are a valuable part of our wider curriculum offer. They help students explore future career interests while strengthening resilience, independence, and workplace readiness.
