Former MP David Wright Inspires Students at Lamledge School During UK Parliament Week
On Monday, Lamledge School was delighted to welcome former MP David Wright as part of our UK Parliament Week celebrations. David, who represented Telford for over a decade, shared his experiences of working in Westminster with our students, offering them a fascinating glimpse into the world of politics and public service.
During his talk, David spoke passionately about the role of MPs in shaping laws, representing their communities, and debating key issues in Parliament. He shared anecdotes from his time in office, including what it was like to participate in debates, meet constituents, and navigate the complexities of government. His stories brought the workings of Westminster to life, giving our students an understanding of how decisions made at a national level can directly impact their lives and communities.
The students were particularly engaged as David answered their questions, which ranged from how he first got involved in politics to the challenges of representing diverse viewpoints. His insights encouraged our students to think critically about democracy, their own values, and the importance of being active citizens.
The visit was a fantastic opportunity for our students to connect classroom learning about the UK political system with real-world experience. It also served to inspire them to consider how they might contribute to their communities and beyond.
We are incredibly grateful to David Wright for taking the time to visit Lamledge School and for providing such a thought-provoking and inspiring session. His visit has left a lasting impression on both our students and staff, and we look forward to continuing our engagement with UK Parliament Week in the future.
